Qualifications and Criteria

Local students 
must be between the ages of 10 to 21 years old; actively involved in a music education program through school or private instructions and must have been studying music for a minimum of 2 years.

Out-of-state students 
must meet the aforementioned criteria if they are residing with a relative or friend in New Orleans. Students must submit a letter of request, a completed application, an audio CD of a solo performance and a letter of recommendation from his/her music teacher and parents.

Out-of-state students applying to Jazz Camp for housing 
at Loyola University New Orleans must be between 15 and 21 years old, actively involved in a music education program through school or private instructions and must have been studying music for a minimum of 2 years. Students must submit a letter of request, a completed application, a CD or DVD of a solo performance and a letter of recommendation from his/her music teacher and parents.

Jazz Camp teachers will evaluate materials and make a decision based on the student’s ability and quality of the DVD and/or CD performance; the student’s commitment and interest in enrolling in camp along with the opinion and recommendation of the applicant’s music teacher.

The applicant will receive a letter of invitation via the internet.

Swing Dance 
is presented the last two weeks of the program as part of the Jazz Camp’s daily classes. Swing dance is offered to all Jazz Camp student/musicians as an elective. Ten non-musician student dancers between the ages of 13 and 21 may register for Swing Dance courses.
